  • Hello!

    Welcome to my blog!

I'm Laura and I am a wedding and portrait photographer located near Brighton.

This is my area to display the personal side of my work, some highlights of my recent professional work and my general mental meanderings! I hope you enjoy the images, and if you do, please do leave a comment!

I live on the edge of the small village of Newick in the East Sussex countryside, with my fiancé Ross and our two cats; Moose and Alan.

When my camera has been prised away from me, I love to watch a silly amount of films, (everything from 'Amelie' to 'The Breakfast Club'), wander around eBay, poke about in flea markets and can often be found pining after passing retro cars of various descriptions!

Please see my main website for details about wedding and portrait photography, and of course, feel free to get in contact!

Preview: Halloween, Steampunk, Gothic, Fancy Dress, Shark Tank Wedding at the Brighton Sea Life Centre… I Know!!

This was, without doubt, THE most unique wedding I’ve ever seen, and I had the privilege to photograph it! Paul (known as Moog), and Lou are such fun, they’re also both actors so they were far from shy in front of the camera! This is supposed to be just a preview but I just couldn’t cut the photo count down any more than this! But it’s my blog so I don’t care! ;D

The wedding was spread over 2 days; day 1 was a town hall civil ceremony and then back to a really cool pub with the most AMAZING Halloween decoration, day 2 was a blessing in a glass bottomed boat in a shark tank at the Sea Life Centre! It was fancy dress too so I was able to dig out some of my old goth gear! Doc Martens and a dog collar!

Lou got ready with her bridesmaids at her mum & stepdad’s house:

Sarah & Andrew’s DIY, Vintage-Themed Wedding ~ Part Two

As I mentioned before, I’ve known Sarah since primary school and we both grew up in Newick together, so it was lovely to be asked to capture their day! If you haven’t seen Part One, it’s HERE.

Sarah and her family worked so hard on all these vintage, DIY details, spending months collecting all the miss-matched crockery and decorating all the jam jars. Sarah made all the bunting too using vintage family sheets and curtains! The venue was High Hurstwood Hall.

“You are so cool man, the post on your blogs are super great.*;:;””

We did it! We got married! The day was absolutely perfect and we couldn’t have wished for anything more! 😀

The weather was ideal, -light cloud cover for the harsh midday sun, then a gorgeous golden sunset, capured beautifully by our amazing photographer Kirsten Mavric. She really was brilliant, so calm and composed, I barely noticed her all day and she even came back after leaving for home because the light was so lovely! Her assistant was Anna Puma, who was also a sweetie!

We got married at Broyle Place in Ringmer and the owners Antonio and Octavia were wonderful; they couldn’t have been more accomodating! They even gave us a posh bottle of Champagne with etched flutes in a presentation box, we’re thinking of saving it for our 1st year anniversary!

Ross is a professional chef so I knew the catering would be something that we couldn’t compromise on and we couldn’t have been more impressed with Super Events! Luckily, being a wedding photographer, I get to see previews of different vendors at other weddings and I’d tried their food a couple of years ago at Tom & Rachel’s wedding. They also took very good care of me as the photographer which is a big plus point! 🙂

The band I’d also seen before and I’ve never seen a dance floor fill up so quick! The frontman, Rob is completely barmy! 😉 They’re called ‘In Yer Face‘ which sort of says it all! They played until just before midnight, then, the last couple of songs played via the PA system were Guns N’ Roses and Tenacious D! It all got very silly 😉

My hair was done by Ascalon Hair and Beauty and they put in so much time before the wedding making sure we had it just right, and making sure my mum was happy with her hair too! My lovely friend Ali did my make up.

I was SO pleased with my dress, I was really lucky to find it in a sample sale at Mathilda Rose Bridal in Lindfield and at fraction of the original price! I’d seen it the year before, but after seeing the price I just put it back, sample sales are AMAZING! 😀 It was a Terry Fox corset and skirt with a Johanna Hehir Chantilly Lace shrug.

And the SHOES!! ‘Abigail’s Party‘ by Irregular Choice 😀

The day after the wedding we went for a pub lunch with family and friends at The Green Man in Ringmer, which was a really cool way to round everything up, all laughing about the day and night before! While we were there, I got a text from Kirsten to say she’d blogged our sneak preview already! So we were all crowding round each other’s phones having a look, the preview is HERE. Do leave her a comment 🙂

Ross and I then went to Gatwick Airport. We haven’t planned our official honeymoon yet, but we still needed a break! So we went to Ibiza for a week. (The hippy end, not the chavvy end!) and had a wonderful time 🙂 I chose not to take a camera because I wanted to just switch my brain off, but this was a quick photo Ross took on my phone at the end of the week, I miss it there already!

Sarah & Andrew’s DIY, Vintage-Themed Wedding ~ Part One

This was such a pretty wedding! I’ve known Sarah since primary school and we both grew up in Newick together, so I was very honoured to be their photographer!

So much time and hard work went into this wedding, when I initially went to Sarah’s family’s house to discuss everything she had a whole room full of jars, lace, vintage crockery and all sorts of other things! She collected it all over months and months leading up to the wedding. They made all the place settings, the table plan, the candle holders, and lots of other pretty things!

The photo on the left is Sarah’s parents, Sarah in the middle and Sarah’s grandparents on the right. Sarah had her grandmother’s brooch on her bouquet.

I LOVE these shoes! They’re by Irregular Choice, which is where I’ve bought mine! 😀

And the beautiful dress…

It’s a Justin Alexander  which Sarah bought from Leonie Claire in Brighton

They got married in St. Mary’s Church in Newick

Sarah made these too:

It was a lovely ceremony, and here is a preview of the reception!

Stay tuned for part two!

Bryony & Toby’s Lewes Castle Wedding ~ East Sussex

I haven’t blogged for a while, but now I’ve got lots of lovely new weddings that I’ll be featuring here soon!
This was a very cute, intimate wedding, it was an outdoor wedding held at Lewes Castle. The bride, Bryony is a wonderfully talented illustrator, she made everything from the invitations and the guest signing poster to all the origami place settings, button holes, her bouquet and table and altar decorations.
I blogged their engagement session here.
She also managed to get in touch with the lead singer of the band InMe, her favourite band, from an old advert somewhere on the web that he’d forgotten about, who performed an amazing acoustic live set and was an absolute sweetie!

I love this idea, might have to steal it for our wedding! 🙂

Dave McPherson

Bryony’s dad was almost more excited about Dave McPherson than Bryony was! He was telling me how he used to take her to the concerts when she was younger

Tiny Converse! 🙂

It was such a lovely day, thank you Bryony & Toby for having me photograph your beautiful wedding!
